Most marine hardware can be divided into two distinct groups these days.

Cheap junk made with little, if any, thought to the impact its production has on the environment or the workers involved - or high quality gear made from materials designed to last, by companies that care.

Plastic and nylon parts are durable for a while and they satisfy price sensitive shoppers. Their production, however, creates numerous toxins, and eventually enough sunshine or stress will cause them to break.

Chrome, nickel, and zinc plating can protect metal surfaces for years, but their initial production, especially in third-world countries can cause devastating harm.

Painted parts are effective for a while, but paint production is usually nasty, and as it chips and goes over the side, paint carries its own poisons along.

Mr Desbiolles patented quick links in 1923, and later sold the patent to Mr Francis Péguet in 1941.

At this time, the start of mass production began and the brand name Maillon Rapide was born.

Initially aimed at repairing chains for agriculture, the use of Maillon Rapide quick links then expanded towards new applications over the years.

Until 1970, this simple and reliable product was used among traditional hardware, and distributors of industrial supplies.

During the mid eighties, Péguet became interested in new markets, while Asian competition and the boom of the leisure industry appeared.

Today, the product range also includes new shapes and sizes fit for paragliding, parachute, industrial safety and mountain climbing.

The compulsory self-certification of all items is a move towards continuous quality improvement.

In the last ten years, product certification in P.P.E. has led to offering CE certified items, as a complement to the standard line of products.(EN362, EN12.275 standards).
