Our Large Boat Bilge Pillow eliminates oils and odors in the bilge so that no contaminants remain. Our patented products combat hydrocarbon pollution through the use of naturally-occurring beneficial microbes placed in floating foam carriers. The foam acts like a boom, attracting and absorbing hydrocarbons and many other water pollutants -- oils, gas, grease, diesel, kerosene, MTBE, nitrates -- and our microbes then digest those pollutants through the natural process of bioremediation. These absorbent foam carriers with pre-measured micro-tablets inserted in them are designed to absorb oil and repel water. Each pillow contains 600 billion Archaea microbes and will treat boats 40 ft and up. The result is a clean bilge without messy absorbents or chemical dispersants. Simply tie-off the Bilge Pillow at a convenient location in your bilge. See our Specifications / Pricing Tab above, for more details about this items different Sizing Details and the Final Pricing for Each of our options available. Sold individually. For boats over 40 feet Specifications: Product Type: Large Boat Bilge Pillows - Model # YE-LBBP - Size: 20" x 6" x 1" - Price: $33.95 The microbes are activated by water so your bilge must have water in it for the microbes to work. Once tied-off, the pad will float on the water and the microbes will continuously work to consume any oil sheens. The microbes multiple every 20 minutes so you will be building up a healthy colony of beneficial microbes that will continue to work in your bilge for 3-4 months. After this time, simply replace with a new pad. Combine this purchase with other items in our store for discounted shipping. What type of business does Young Enterprises conduct? Young Enterprises is a company engaged in the manufacturing of microbial products to: Break down pollutants (e.g. fats, oils, gases, greases and glycol) released in marine environments, on land, as well as spills in ecologically sensitive and freshwater areas Reduce organic waste buildup and its attendant odors in grease traps, septic systems, watercraft holding tanks, and other places where noxious conditions exist Break down commercial/industrial oily wastes on all types of surfaces and containers either caused by normal operations or due to spills How does Young Enterprises accomplish this? Young Enterprises utilizes various mixtures of a special blend of archaea, naturally occurring microbes to attack oils and other organic (carbon based) wastes breaking them down into harmless water, carbon dioxide, and fatty acids (food for fish and other living organisms). How does this break-down process work? The break down of oils and other organic wastes occurs through a process called “bioremediation”. Bioremediation is a natural process that occurs wherever living microbes are present and are breaking down carbon based substances, which is essentially all living matter. This is MOTHER NATURE’S WAY OF RECYCLING. And like all living creatures, microbes have a growth phase, a mature phase, and a dying phase. For Young Enterprises microbes, this “life” process covers approximately 90 days allowing the microbes to “work” breaking down contaminants over this extended 3 month period. What’s so special about our microbes? Our microbes are unique. They are from the Archaea family (they are ancient & hearty) and have been collected from various extreme environments all over the world including deep sea vents, oil wells, volcanoes, and hot springs. They are specially blended to attack and break down oils and organic substances into: water, carbon dioxide, and harmless fatty acids. They function in temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. There are more than 100 strains of these naturally occurring microbes in each of our products and they are safe, non-toxic, non-engineered, and contain no pathogens. These microbial consortiums are even listed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on their National Contingency Plan. Young Enterprises microbes are invisible to the naked eye and are housed in a fine bentonite clay powder with a dormant shelf life of five years. They are activated with water (salt or fresh) and directly applied to the contaminant. Our microbes are highly concentrated (more so than any known microbial product) with up to 5 billion microbes per gram. Once activated by water, the microbes attack and break down the contaminant while reproducing by doubling in number every 20 minutes. When wet, they convert potentially harmful hydrocarbon spills into non-toxic beneficial by-products like carbon dioxide, water and water-soluble fatty acids, which are food for fish and plant vegetation.
